Nabusanga Primary School - Chicken Farm Expansion

Our Day by De team returned to Nabusanga Primary School in September 2022, and the school generously hosted another handover ceremony. We were greeted with performances by student dancers, drummers, and traditional singing and clapping. The warm welcomes are always appreciated.

Day by De is thrilled that Nabusanga Primary School has maintained the vegetable garden and chicken house projects, even through the Covid pandemic. We’ve welcomed a deepening relationship with the school since the garden construction in 2016. And most recently, the Foundation funded the expansion of Nabusanga’s chicken house, doubling its capacity! Impressively, the school even had the foresight to design the original structure and foundation with this potential expansion in mind back in 2019.

During the handover ceremony, Nabusanga’s teachers described examples of the educational benefits of Day by De’s projects on the school and its students:

“These projects did not only benefit the school in terms of sustaining…but by imparting skills in the children that will help them for their long lives.” -Nabusanga teacher

“They also find the market, which is an entrepreneur skill that we are teaching the learners…We use that money to continue buying uniforms for the learners. We’ve used that money to clean the school…We’ve used that money to repair the desks, the few desks that we have.” -Mrs. Ivy Kabuswe Ndhilovu, Nabusanga Head Teacher

Dr. Chrispin Maleya (Kabwe DEBS) then explained the long-term impacts and goals for these students:

It is up to us to learn, through these projects that they are sponsoring and come out of Nabusanga with a skill. And that is a request that we are making – that all the children that come out of Nabusanga School should come out with a skill that can sustain them as they go out into the community. For the learners, we still ask you to take care of what you are given.

After a variety of entertaining student-led musical and theatrical performances, the handover ceremony ended with a ribbon-cutting and plaque dedication to Day by De and our donors at the expanded chicken house.

Day by De eagerly awaits our return to Nabusanga! In the meantime, we will evaluate the potential for additional projects at this school in the future.
